Have you ever wondered what makes some sushi nori consistently crisp, glossy, and flavorful — while others feel tough or taste dull?
The secret lies not just in the seaweed itself, but in how it is processed.
Unlike trading companies that buy and resell from unknown sources, Beijing Shipuller Co., Ltd. operates our own nori factory in Jiangsu, China. We control every step — from raw material sourcing to finished product packaging.
Here is an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at our complete production process.
Step 1: Raw Material Sourcing – Annual Procurement Before the New Season
Nori is a seasonal crop. Once a year, before the new harvest season begins, we purchase a full year‘s supply of raw nori.
Official trading auctions – to secure consistent industrial-grade quality
Direct purchase from local farming households – to support stable supply and competitive pricing
All raw materials are immediately transported to our factory and stored in temperature-controlled cold rooms. This preserves freshness, color, and nutritional value until processing.
Why this matters: Annual bulk purchasing allows us to lock in costs and ensures you receive consistent quality throughout the year — no matter how the market fluctuates.
Step 2: Cold Storage – Keeping Raw Nori in Peak Condition
Our factory is equipped with dedicated cold storage facilities covering part of our production area.
Temperature and humidity are strictly controlled. Raw nori is stored in sealed, food-grade containers. First-in-first-out (FIFO) inventory management ensures freshness
This step is critical. Poorly stored nori loses its natural sheen, becomes brittle, and develops off-flavors. problems we completely avoid with our cold chain system.
Step 3: Cleaning & Sorting – Removing Impurities by Hand and Machine
Before roasting, raw nori goes through multiple cleaning and sorting stages:
Magnetic separation – removes any metal particles
Airflow cleaning – blows away dust and loose debris
Manual inspection – trained workers visually inspect each batch to remove any discolored or damaged pieces
We take foreign material control seriously. Our HACCP-based system ensures that only clean, high-quality raw material moves to the next stage.
Step 4: Roasting – Where the Magic Happens
This is the most critical step in nori production.
We operate automatic nori roasting lines. Each sheet passes through a precisely controlled heating chamber where:
The temperature is carefully calibrated
Each sheet is roasted evenly on both sides
Natural umami compounds are activated
The signature crisp texture develops
A poorly roasted nori sheet can be:
Too dry → brittle and crumbly
Under-roasted → tough and chewy
Our automated systems ensure consistent roast level from the first sheet of the day to the last.
Step 5: Quality Inspection – Every Batch, Every Time
After roasting, each batch goes through a rigorous quality check: color, texture, aroma and moisture content. Any batch failing our standards is rejected and not packed for export. We do not compromise on quality.
Step 6: Packaging – Preserving Freshness for Global Shipping
Once inspected and graded, nori is immediately packed in:
Moisture-proof inner bags with desiccant or oxygen absorber
Strong export cartons labeled with product details, grade, and batch number
Packaging is done in a humidity-controlled environment to prevent the nori from absorbing moisture before sealing.
Step 7: Warehousing & Dispatch – Ready for Export
Finished products are stored in our finished goods warehouse before shipment. From there, they are loaded into 20‘ or 40‘ containers and shipped to over 100 countries worldwide.
Our location near major ports (Qingdao, Shanghai) allows for fast, efficient logistics — reducing transit time and keeping your supply chain moving.
When you buy from a trading company, you are several steps removed from production. Quality issues are harder to trace. Consistency is harder to guarantee.
When you buy directly from Beijing Shipuller‘s own nori factory, you get:
Full traceability – from harvest to your container
Consistent quality – we control every variable
Competitive pricing – no middleman markups
Custom solutions – grading, packaging, and sizing tailored to your market
Reliable supply – annual bulk purchasing means we don‘t run out mid-season
